  • Vigra

    Ålesund

    About 20km north of the town centre, Vigra is home to Ålesund's airport as well as a long white-sand beach called Blindheimssanden (also called Blimsand).

    Bornholm

    The town's elevated landmark has a distinctive witch's-hat tower. Its present form dates from 1918, though it sits on the site of a 13th-century chapel.

    Tromsø

    The Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum displays mainly 19th-century to present-day sculpture, photography, painting and handicrafts by artists from northern Norway.

  • St Olav's Cross

    Bergen & the Southwestern Fjords

    In a field around 150m southeast of the tourist office stands the weathered stone erected in 1023 to commemorate the local conversion to Christianity.

    This magnificent building dates from 1535 when it was the residence of a Danish and Norwegian noble family. It can only be viewed from the outside.

    A nice square to come and eat a picnic or relax in on sunny days. It has a children's play area, including a very fun permanent bouncy trampoline.

  • Päämajamuseo

    The Finnish Lakeland

    Päämajamuseo was Mannerheim’s office and the base of the Finnish armed forces during WWII and evokes this period of Finland's history well.

    Skåne

    A renovated 19th-century warehouse east of the harbour, with local exhibitions of handicrafts and art (for sale). There's a small café inside.

    The small wooden Orthodox chapel above the football pitch commemorates the twin disasters of 1996 (a plane crash) and 1997 (a mine explosion).

    Ísafjörður's big bronze Seaman's Monument depicts two fishermen with their nets and commemorates those who've lost their lives at sea.

    This beautiful orangery, a focal point of the Linnaean Gardens of Uppsala, is over 200 years old.

    The 'folk' part of the Dalane Folk Museum features eight historic timber homes at Slettebø, 3.5km north of Egersund just off the Rv42.
