This rooftop bar overlooking busy Ð Nguyen Hue has a good selection of international beers, live gigs, and DJs with a funk, hip-hop and electronica edge.

Taipei's new favourite gay sauna. Has a steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, darkroom, maze, cabins, lounge and cafe. Crowded on nights when locals get a discount.
Banglamphu
After what must be at least a decade (or three?), the open-air patio at Gecko Bar remains a fun and frugal place to gawk at other patrons and passers-by.
Mindoro
This centrally located restobar draws raucous live-music acts by night and serves buckets of beer and Filipino food (mains P50 to P150) around-the-clock.
Macau
This cute contemporary coffeehouse specialises in blends, and touts its homemade sandwiches, breakfasts, and pastries, most of which are reasonably good.

Open til early morning, CP is the place to kick on once everything else has closed. It has garden seating, a tapas menu, live bands and a club with a DJ.

U-Bar has long remained at the top of the heap for the college crowd, partly because the best bands from Bangkok usually play here when they visit Ubon.
Ko Samet
On the beach, this is a good spot for after-dark beach-gazing, with a fun crowd and strong cocktails. During the day it does acceptable coffee and food.

This is probably the most low-key, sophisticated venue on Soi 4 – except during the drag shows that take place on Monday, Friday and Saturday nights.
Nha Trang
Popular bia hoi joint that pulls in a loyal local (and backpacker) crowd. It serves a light lager and a darker brown beer, as well as snacks.

This small, long-running gay bar in Dōyama-chō is welcoming to locals and visitors alike. There's no cover charge and drinks are reasonably priced.

Yogyakarta
This hole-in-the-wall cafe (little more than a shack but decidedly shabby chic) offers a chance to sample beans from across the archipelago.
