With many people jostling for space with others as they work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, some hotels are renting out rooms by the day to those looking for peace and privacy for work purposes. They are suggesting these initiatives as an option for those who can't carry out their duties in their normal workplace, but are finding their homes unsuitable for work purposes.

Hotel Figueroa in Los Angeles is offering guests the opportunity to rent a room out from 9am to 5pm, and it has put has social distancing measures in place. The suites it offers under its "Work Perks" program average 353 square feet, and as well as a bedroom and bathroom, guests have a spacious living room featuring an executive writing desk, two smart TVs and an in-suite coffee machine. High-speed Wi-Fi is provided as well as unlimited use of a copy machine and paper for black and white printing. Guests also get complimentary parking and can use the hotel's pool and fitness room.
Sometimes brainstorming with colleagues in person is useful, and Cedar Lakes Estate in New York’s Hudson Valley is launching a program called "Executive Stay" on weekdays next month. It has private cottages and outdoor and indoor separate work spaces, and it is aimed at those in small offices who would like to gather in a socially-distanced setting.

There are many other options available to those who don't want to endure the myriad challenges of trying to make a kitchen table function as a workspace. This includes hotel day rental services like Day Use, Room For Day and By Hours. It's a win-win situation, as with travel being curtailed at present, empty hotel rooms can be repurposed as office spaces. And for the harassed home worker, it removes the challenge of children and pets interrupting video calls and callers to the door causing a distraction.
