Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum

Washington, DC

Before founding the American Red Cross, Clara Barton set up shop in her DC boardinghouse to locate thousands of missing soldiers after the Civil War. You can view a film, then visit the restored rooms where she lived and worked. Artifacts include her original tin advertising sign, handwritten letters, clothing and more.

Everything was forgotten in the attic for 150 years before being discovered by chance.
