Bartholdi Park

Washington, DC

Beautifying a traffic island at the rear of the United States Botanic Garden, this modest showcase of sustainable and accessible landscape design has at its centerpiece the bronze-coated, cast-iron Fountain of Light and Water (1876) by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, creator of the Statue of Liberty. Benches, rocking chairs and tables dot the grounds. It's a sweet little refuge where you can escape the Mall crowds.
