A few hundred metres north of the airport runway is a signed turn-off west to the beach where a monument commemorates the spot where the Port-au-Prince was ransacked and its crew massacred on 1 December 1806. The ship’s anchor was found offshore in 2009; some of the ship's cannons are lined up outside the former British Embassy on Vuna Rd in Nuku'alofa.
