The oldest temple on the island, Wat Phu Khao Noi or 'temple of small mountain', near the hospital in Thong Sala, is believed to have been founded by Buddhist monks in the 15th century and features a historic white pagoda surrounded by eight smaller ones, the base of which is decorated with words attributed to Buddha. The site is open to visitors throughout the day, but the monks are only around in the morning.
