The excellent Waikato Museum has several main areas: an art gallery; interactive science galleries; a Waikato River exhibition; and Tainui galleries housing Māori treasures, including the magnificently carved waka taua (war canoe), Te Winikawaka. The museum also runs a rigorous program of public events. Admission is charged for some displays, and there is a full schedule of one-off and visiting exhibitions.
