Ganića Kula

Northern Montenegro

Residential towers of this sort were once common throughout eastern Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania. Not just a defence against invaders, a kula was particularly useful for protecting the menfolk during interfamily blood feuds. There's a revamped ethnographic museum inside the tower, with a well-presented collection of costumes, crafts and artefacts. The tower is a two-minute walk north from the main square.
