On the northern side of Nagy Imre tér is the former Military Court of Justice, where the eponymous Nagy and others were tried and sentenced to death in 1958 for their role in the 1956 Uprising. It was also the site of the notorious Fő utca Prison, where many other victims of the communist regime were incarcerated and tortured.
