Tobique Salmon Barrier

New Brunswick

Each spring, this government-funded center builds a barrier to hold the salmon from swimming upstream, protecting them from low water levels and poachers. From the viewing platform, you can see the barrier as well as flashes of 30lb Atlantic salmon that return every two years to spawn. Check out the tank of baby salmon that are released into the river to increase stock. At the end of September, the barrier is removed and the salmon swim free.
