Louisbourg Lighthouse

Cape Breton Island

Canada's first lighthouse was built on this wild, rugged and extremely scenic site in 1734. The present lighthouse, a handsome concrete structure, was opened in 1923. You can't enter the lighthouse, but it's worth a visit to explore the wonderful site and tread the rugged 6km trail that follows the coast over bogs, barrens and Precambrian polished granite.
