A hotel in Vienna has found a way to keep guests’ spirits up while entertaining them in a safe way that adheres to social distancing guidelines; a courtyard opera that can be viewed and heard from all of the rooms.

Held by Zeitgeist Vienna, a recent concert featured string ensemble Camerata Carnuntum along with opera singers Monika Medek and Dagmar Dekanovsky. The concert included well known pieces from Mozart to Strauss.

“Our ‘window concerts’ were intended to give artists the opportunity to perform and guests to listen to music live again. We turn ourselves into an outdoor concert hall for some evenings. Guests of the concert stay in their rooms with a view to the green courtyard of the hotel where the artists perform, 100% corona-safe,” Zeitgeist Vienna said.

The idea was inspired by concerts that the hotel had had in their green courtyard in the past, with the difference being where the crowd was located. Where previously attendees sat directly in front of the band, this special configuration saw them enjoying the music from their rooms. The hotel has 55 rooms with views to the courtyard, making the plan easy to implement.

“We received so much positive feedback during and after the window concert. This is also the reason why three more window concerts will take place at Zeitgeist Vienna until the end of August,” the hotel told Lonely Planet. The next concert will take place on 27 June, featuring Austrian R’nB, soul and pop band The Men, while acoustic blues musician Siggi Fassl will play on 18 July.
