Tourism to Tibet was booming in 2014 with a record 15 million visitors - a 20% increase from 2013. More than 51,000 people visited the Tibetan side of Mount Everest, which was a 6% increase on the previous year. The region also saw a record 3.15 million air passengers, likely due to an increased number of flights to Tibet’s five airports, most of them from mainland China.
