To quote a hungry young Hobbit, “What about Second Breakfast?!”. Well there is finally an answer to that age old question, as Hobbiton Movie Set introduces a new tour experience to their offering that is sure to satisfy even the hungriest Hobbits. A long time in the making, the Second Breakfast tour is available from December 20 on select weekends.
The new three-hour experience begins with a tour of the 12-acre filming location on the Alexander family farm in rural Hinuera near Matamata on New Zealand's North Island. The tour features anecdotes and stories of how a piece of rural New Zealand was transformed into one of the largest movie sets ever constructed for a major film. Guests see sites from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, including Bag End, Sam’s house, the double-arch stone bridge and The Green Dragon Inn where they can sample specially brewed ale or ginger. After that guests are shown to the newly opened Millhouse, a converted mill just across the water with a crackling open fire and wooden beam ceilings.
There, they will tuck into a breakfast spread fit for a Hobbit, set across an open table. The meal consists of fresh seasonal fruits, pastries, house-made breads, cold meats and preserves. A plated hot breakfast will then be served including lamb sausages, scrambled eggs, grilled mushrooms, potatoes and streaky bacon. A special vegetarian breakfast is also available on request.

“At Hobbiton, we try to introduce something new every year and continue to evolve and improve the experiences we share. The new Second Breakfast Tour is a natural fit for our offering out here at Hobbiton, and gives our guests a chance to dine in the newly opened Millhouse too. I’ve always thought the movie set is beautiful in the mornings, especially as it was originally designed to capture the morning light during filming,” said Russell Alexander, CEO and Co-Founder of Hobbiton Movie Set.
