As he embarked on his tenth official visit to India earlier this week, Prince Charles posted his first personal statement to his Instagram page.

In the post on the Clarence House Instagram account, the heir to the British throne conveyed his warmest wishes to the Sikh community in the UK and across the Commonwealth, on the 550th anniversary of the birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism. When he arrived in India, the prince also visited the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib Sikh temple in Delhi, to celebrate the anniversary.

The Clarence House Instagram account allows the public to follow the adventures of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. Updates are posted by their office, but the post around the India trip represented the first time Prince Charles has shared a statement himself. Earlier this year, his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, created her first post on the official Royal Family Instagram account, where the public can follow her travels around the UK on royal engagements.

The Instagram account gives followers a great flavour of international culture, because Prince Charles went overseas the most on duty of all the Royal Family in 2017, racking up 172 official engagements abroad and 374 in the UK. Other posts his office have shared this week include the prince being given a birthday card and cake from school children in Mumbai on the occasion of his 71st birthday.
