An employee of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the struggling international airline of Pakistan, has been caught at Karachi International Airport with six bags stuffed with illegal mobile phones, and a seventh bag full of bottles of alcohol, which is banned from import at Pakistan’s airports.

Customs officials have reported that the bags contained 1264 phones, the largest haul of illegal phones to be seized in the country. In recent years, PIA staff have been arrested for smuggling everything from mobile phones to fake passports, drugs and laundered money for criminal gangs.
