Those hoping to travel to Hawaii may be glad to hear that Hawaiian Airlines is making it easier to undergo COVID-19 tests before their trip.

The carrier will be offering convenient drive-through testing in select US mainland gateways from 15 October, allowing travelers testing negative to bypass the state of Hawaii quarantine and begin enjoying the islands from the moment they arrive. It is the second carrier to do so, as United Airlines recently announced that it is also offering pre-flight COVID-19 tests so passengers can travel to Hawaii.

Hawaiian has partnered with Worksite Labs to give travelers access to drive-through PCR testing using shallow nasal swab tests. They will be conducted at labs located near Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) international airports initially, and then other airports across the country will be added. Travelers who test negative within 72 hours of departure will be exempt from Hawaii’s requirement for a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.

In addition to offering travelers convenient testing, Hawaiian has implemented a comprehensive health and safety program covering all aspects of their journey. Those intending to fly must complete a health acknowledgment form at check-in indicating they are free of COVID-19 symptoms, and confirming that they will wear an adequate face mask or covering at the airport and during the flight. Those under two years of age and older people who are unable to wear a face mask or covering due to a medical condition or disability must undergo a health screening to be allowed board.

As well as its “Keeping you Safe” enhanced cleaning, Hawaiian will continue to leave 70% cabin capacity through October to allow for onboard distancing. Its drive-through PCR testing facility costs $90 (€77) for results within 36 hours, or $150 (€128) for its day-of-travel express service.
