Starting April 3, 2022, the park will pilot a new, seasonal reservation system for all visits between 6am and 5pm. Visitors will need to show this reservation (which can be made for a nominal $2), a photo ID as well as a park pass to enter the park.

Located just outside Moab, Arches National Park has grown in popularity in the last decade, now averaging more than 1.6 million visitors a year.

Overcoming the overcrowding of the National Parks

The Arches National Park's reservation system is one of many new programs the National Parks is implementing as it grapples with record demand. Glacier National Park piloted a reservation system for Going-to-the-Sun Road for the 2021 summer season. Rocky Mountain and Yosemite also instituted reservations systems to manage crowds in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zion National Park also recently announced it would institute a permitting system for its iconic Angels Landing hike. Shenandoah National Park announced it would implement a permitting system for hiking Old Rag in March 2022.
